EUGENE, Ore. -
Baylor qualified five runners to the semifinals of the men’s 400 meters on the third day of competition at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Sunday at Hayward Field. 

All five runners earned automatic qualifying spots into Monday’s semifinal, as the Bears had two heat winners and two heat runner-ups.

Jeremy Wariner, the No. 1-ranked quartermiler in the world and defending Olympic gold medalist, won his heat in 46.04 to move on to the next round of qualifying. Also a heat winner was junior Quentin Iglehart-Summers who clocked 45.87, finishing as the only runner under 46 seconds in his heat.

LeJerald Betters finished second in his heat, recording a time of 45.46 to finish second as the day’s fastest heat featured four runners under 46 seconds. Reggie Witherspoon also took second in his heat, running 45.94.

Darold Williamson finished third in his heat with a time of 46.00 to also earn an automatic spot in Monday’s semifinals.

Sanya Richards won her heat of the women’s 400 meters with a time of 51.08, the fastest time of the quarterfinals, to advance to Monday’s semifinal heats.

In finals action, Angel Perkins finished sixth in the finals of the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.23.

Action continues on Monday with Day Four of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
