Student-Athletes Help With Special Olympics

Members of the Baylor women's soccer team participated in a local Special Olympics event, Jan. 27.

Feb. 1, 2007

Baylor student-athletes from football, women's golf, soccer, equestrian, and men's tennis participated in a sports clinic on the Baylor campus Jan. 27 for Waco-area Special Olympic athletes.

The Special Olympic athletes were taught skills in golf, soccer, football, bowling, and bocce at Marrs-McLean Gym. Each area had a student-athlete teaching the athletes basic skills in playing each sport.

In between practicing the sports, student-athletes took time to help each Olympian on an individual basis to make sure they got personal instruction.

"This is another great opportunity for our student-athletes to get involved with the Waco community. The Special Olympics is always a priority for us because of what the program stands for. We are glad that we are able to participate and look forward to working with them more in the future," said Kevin Henry, the Director of Student-Athlete Development, as he watched the clinic.
