The 2005 Baylor softball team planted this tree outside of Getterman Stadium in honor of former Lady Bear softball player Tori Birk Luke, who passed away after a Central Texas car accident on Aug. 13, 2004.

On Aug. 13, 2004, former Baylor softball player Tori (Birk) Luke was killed in a Central Texas car accident, leaving behind husband Jon and infant son, Hunter.

In the words of her dear friends: "Tori was a wonderful mother, wife and friend. She was always concerned with the wellbeing of others before herself, even during her last minutes of life. She had a great love for her family and husband. Hunter was the light of her life, and she couldn't wait to get to know him and spend the the rest of her life as his mother. With the support and prayers of friends and the Baylor family Jon and Hunter will be ok, they have a very special angel watching over them."

Luke, 27, was one of Baylor's first recruits when the school reinstated the softball program in 1996. She was a four-year starter (1996-1999) for the Bears, three at shortstop and one at second base. Luke, who originally hailed from Oklahoma City, Okla., came to Baylor after graduating from Westmoore High School.
