Performance Nutrition

MISSION & VISION

Vision Statement
To guide the practical execution of evidence-based nutrition strategies to optimize student-athletes’ performance and foster lifelong healthy behaviors.
 

SERVICES
  • Individual Consultations
    • One-on-one consults with performance dietitian personalized to specific needs of the student-athlete (injury, recovery, nutrient deficiency, etc.)
  • Team Education
    • Delivered by performance dietitian to entire team, and includes topics such as hydration, macronutrient and micronutrient needs, fueling for specific sport,  and recovery strategies
    • Performance dietitian led grocery store tours, cooking classes, cooking demonstrations, and more
  • Supplement Evaluation and Education
    • Performance dietitian ensures NCAA compliance by educating on specific supplement efficacy and safety
    • Performance dietitian reviews all supplements taken during yearly pre-participation examination and throughout the year
  • Body Composition and Bone Density Assessment
    • Performance dietitian utilizes a DXA machine to assess body composition and bone mineral density of student-athletes
    • Performance dietitian will review results with student-athlete to establish personalized goals and track changes
  • Fueling Stations
    • Each teams’ locker room and all 3 weight rooms are equipped with a fueling station to provide snack and pre-and-post training fuel for student-athletes outside of regular meal times
  • Student-Athlete Training Table and Catered Snack Program
    • The Beauchamp Athletics Nutrition Center (BANC) is an athlete-only dining hall that provides breakfast and dinner meals for all student athletes
    • The performance chef and performance dietitians collaborate on menus to ensure all food allergies, food sensitivities, and individual needs are met for all student-athletes
    • Performance dietitians are present at meals to assist with plate building and deliver real-time education
    • All student-athletes, regardless of team or scholarship, receive a daily allotment on “Bear Fuel,” a phone app through Red Card. Bear Fuel allows athletes to eat at over twenty vendors (both on and off campus) while remaining compliant with NCAA regulations
  • Competition Nutrition
    • Provide competition fueling and hydration needs
    • Provide individual snack bags, hydration, recovery, and menu planning for away events
