Red Raiders Ease Past Bears, 3-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Baylor baseball team dropped the first game in a conference series versus Texas Tech 3-2 Friday night at Dan Law Field.

With the loss, the Bears fall to 18-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while the Red Raiders move above .500 to 14-13 overall, and 3-4 in league play.

Senior right-hander Chad Hawkins (3-4) took the loss, giving up eight hits and three earned runs in six innings. Tech starter J.J. Newman (2-1) went eight innings, giving up two runs on eight hits to earn the win.

The Bears got on the board first when lead off hitter Jaime Bubela scored on an RBI single by Matt Williams in the top of the first inning. Baylor struck again in the fourth when Williams reached base after being hit by the pitcher and scored when Mike Huggins blasted a single to left field.

The Red Raiders fought back with two runs in the third and a run in the fifth to clinch the win.

The teams will meet again Saturday at 2 p.m.
