LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite Mike Huggins' three-run homer in the first inning, the Baylor baseball team fell to Texas Tech 16-11 Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 18-7 overall, 5-3 in Big 12 Conference play. The Red Raiders improve to 15-13 overall, 4-4 in the league.
Freshman left-hander Derek Brehm(0-1) took his first career loss of the season, giving up four runs on one hit in just one-third inning. Tech reliever Steve Rowe earned the win, giving up three runs on one hit in 1.2 innings.
"I think their hitters just beat up on our pitchers up today," said Baylor head coach Steve Smith. "Yes, the wind was blowing out, but I don't think the weather affected Tech any differently than it did us. They are swinging the bats real well right now."
The teams will meet again Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
