Bears Cruise Over Red Raiders For First Conference Win

WACO, Texas - Baylor picked up its first Big 12 Conference win of the Dave Bliss Era Wednesday night with a 71-57 home victory over Texas Tech. Baylor (10-7, 1-5 Big 12) snapped a 22-game conference regular-season losing streak which stretched back to Feb. 25, 1998.

The Bears never trailed and had built a 15-point lead at 27-12 with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half. However, Texas Tech (9-7, 0-5) scored the half's final five points to cut the lead to eight, 32-24, at intermission.

Baylor pushed the lead back to 10 on three different occasions early in the second half before the Red Raiders went on a 11-2 run to trim the Bears' advantage to a single point, 42-41, with 12:18 to play. After both teams exchanged baskets, Jamie Kendrick drilled a three-pointer from the right baseline to spark a 10-0 Baylor run that put the Bears in command for the rest of the contest.

Junior point guard DeMarcus Minor, one of four Baylor players to score in double figures, led the Bears by with a game-high 18 points to go along with eight assists and six rebounds. Tevis Stukes had 15 points, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, while Terry Black recorded his ninth double-double, and his first in Big 12 action, with 14 points and 11 boards. Kendrick added 10 points.

Tech was led by Brodney Kennard's 15 points and James Ware's 11 rebounds.

The Bears return to the road for its next game against 15th-ranked Oklahoma State, Sunday at noon (CST). The game will be televised by ESPN Regional.
