WACO, Texas - Baylor ace Johann Jooste won his first match of the year, leading the No. 12 Bears to a 5-2 over No. 31 Alabama on Thursday in Waco.
Jooste beat No. 26 Francisco Rodriguez in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Rodriguez, a two-time All-American, was ranked No. 5 in the preseason rankings but suffered through a tough fall.
The Bears swept all three doubles matches for the second match in a row and have now won eight of nine doubles matches this spring.
The Bears' next action comes Saturday, Feb. 12 as the Bears host Lamar. The match is set for 2 p.m. at the Streich Tennis Courts.
