Baseball Falls to Nebraska, 6-2

LINCOLN, Neb. - Matt Williams was two-for-four with a home run, but it was not enough as the Baylor baseball team lost to Nebraska 6-2 in the series opener in front of a Huskers-record crowd of 3,658 Friday night.

After a scoreless first inning, Baylor (27-12, 12-4) jumped on the board when Ron Zboril led off with a single to right field and Williams followed with a two-run homer over the centerfield fence to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Baylor didn't hold on to the lead for long as Nebraska (28-8, 11-3) racked up three runs in the third. After Bears starter Steven White (8-1) walked two straight batters, Huskers first baseman Dan Johnson reached on an error by Zboril to score a run. Justin Seely then ripped a two-run single to put the Huskers up, 3-2.

Nebraska added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and starter Shane Komine (8-1) went the distance, striking out 11 batters while walking just one.

White, who took his first loss of the season, worked six innings, He gave up six runs, three of them earned, and walked seven batters. Freshman Cody Hall came on in relief and tossed two shutout innings.

Baylor and Nebraska meet for the second game of the three-game Big 12 set Saturday at 3 p.m.
