Box Score

LINCOLN, Neb. - In a game packed with a three-run homer, a grand slam and four lead changes, the Baylor baseball team lost to Nebraska 10-4 Sunday afternoon at Buck Beltzer Field.

With the loss, the Bears fall to 27-14 overall and 12-6 in Big 12 play, while the league-leading Huskers improve to 30-8 and 13-3. The Big 12 conference sweep marks the first time Baylor has been swept in league series since Texas Tech took three games from the Bears in 2000. Baylor has lost just three of the last 25 conference series it has played.

Nebraska struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. After six scoreless innings, Baylor battled back with three runs in the sixth. Trevor Mote led off with a single to the shortstop and Chris Durbin ripped a base hit to right field to put runners in scoring position. Kelly Shoppach then smacked a home run over the right field fence to score three runs and give the Bears a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Bears starter Justin Taylor walked in the tying run, but Baylor again moved ahead with a run in the eighth.

The Bears wouldn't hold the lead for long, as the Huskers exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth keyed by Dan Johnson's grand slam.

Taylor worked six innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five batters. Derek Brehm (0-2) came on relief and gave up six runs on five hits in one plus innings for the loss. Huskers closer Thom Ott (3-0) allowed one run in two innings for the win.

Baylor returns to action Tuesday, traveling to San Marcos, Texas, for a non-conference game with Southwest Texas State. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
