Baseball Drops Game One to Texas Tech, 11-8

WACO, Texas - Baylor scored eight runs on 15 hits, but the 17th-ranked Bears were unable to match Texas Tech's four home runs, losing to the Red Raiders 11-8 Friday night at Baylor Ballpark.

Texas Tech (38-15-1, 18-9-1 Big 12) jumped on Baylor starter Steven White (10-2) early, scoring three runs in the second inning.

Baylor (34-19, 16-9 Big 12) responded with four runs in the third to take a one-run lead. Mike Huggins led off with a single up the middle and Trevor Mote drilled a base hit to left field to put runners aboard. Tim Hartshorn then ripped an RBI single to center to score Huggins and Mote came across on an error by the centerfielder. Chris Durbin lifted a two-run homer over the left wall to cap off the inning.

The Red Raiders regained the lead with a five-run fifth inning, including a grand slam by Jason Rainey. Although Baylor added two runs in the fifth, a run in the eighth and a run in the ninth, the Bears were unable pull ahead.

Texas Tech starter Brandon Roberson (12-0) worked five innings and allowed six runs on 11 dhits for the win.

Baylor and Texas Tech meet for game two of the series Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark.
