LUBBOCK, Texas - Kasib Powell scored 26 points as Texas Tech beat Baylor 80-64 on Saturday.
Tech (11-2, 1-1 Big 12) steadily built a lead after trailing early.
Baylor (9-5, 0-3 Big 12) pulled within five points at 50-45 with about 14 minutes remaining, but could get no closer. During a six-minute stretch that followed, the Bears failed to score a field goal. The Red Raiders held their biggest lead at 70-51 after Will Chavis sank a 3-pointer with 5:32 left in the game.
Andre Emmett scored 18 points for Texas Tech, which lost 68-44 to Kansas State a week ago. Will Chavis added 16 points for the Red Raiders.
After trailing by eight early in the game, Tech went on a 12-2 run to lead 20-18 with about 10 minutes remaining until halftime.
When Baylor tied the game at 22 on an 18-footer by Terrence Thomas, the Red Raiders put together a 15-3 spurt, capped by a dunk by Powell to give Tech its biggest lead of the half at 37-25.
Lawrence Roberts scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Kenny Taylor added 17 points to led the Bears.
Tech led 41-31 at halftime.
