WACO, Texas - The No. 3-ranked Baylor Bears handed host TCU their sixth loss of the season when they beat the Frogs 5-2 at the Friedman Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. Baylor senior Zoltan Papp won his school record-tying 94th career singles match. Papp now sits at No. 1 with former all-Americans Mark Williams and Johann Jooste.
In doubles, Baylor's Benjamin Becker and Zoltan Papp, ranked No. 48, had the easiest time posting a win, defeating Alex Menichini and Daniel Scholten, 8-3. Benedikt Dorsch and Reiner Neurohr clinched the doubles point for the Bears with an 8-5 win at No. 1 over Fabrizio Sestini and Toni Gordon. TCU's Rafael Abreu and Jacob Martin upset No. 28 Matias Marin and Ivor Lovrak 8-6.
Papp, clinched his record-tying victory by defeating TCU's top-ranked player Toni Gordon (No. 103) in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. Dorsch, Benjamin Becker and Ivor Lovrak also registered singles wins for the Bears to rraise the team's season win total to 18. TCU's Menichini upset the Bears' Matias Marin, playing at No 1. Marin lost the first set, won the second in a tiebreaker then lost the match in a super tiebreaker. Reiner Neurohr's loss at No. 5 singles followed the same pattern as Lovrak's. Neurohr lost toJacopo Tezza 6-7, 6-1, then lost in the super tiebreaker.
Baylor is now 18-1 on the season while TCU falls to 11-6.
