Box Score

NORMAN, Okla. --- The No. 8 Baylor softball team rebounded from a 2-0 loss in game one of a doubleheader against No. 5 Oklahoma with a 6-5 victory over the Sooners in game two in action Monday at Marita Hynes Field. With the split, Baylor moves to 40-8 overall, 8-5 in the conference, while Oklahoma goes to 42-9 overall, 10-3 in Big 12 play.

Baylor had a chance to grab an early lead in game one as Kelly Osburn led off the game with a double down the left field line and eventually advanced to third with one out. Osburn, however, was unable to score as she was thrown out at home on a wild pitch by Oklahoma starter Kami Keiter as the score remained tied at 0-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.

Neither team could manage another good scoring opportunity until the bottom of the sixth, when Oklahoma finally scored on Baylor starter Tessa Lynam. With two outs in the sixth, Jamie Fox hit a two-run double off the right-center field wall, scoring Norrelle Dickson and Jamie Fox as the Sooners grabbed a two-run lead heading into the seventh.

Kim Wilmoth singled with two outs in the seventh, however, Melissa Huffhines flied out deep to right field to end the game as Keiter picked up her 10th shutout win of the year. In the complete game victory, Keiter improved to 24-4 on the season after scattering four hits while striking out five.

Lynam took the tough-luck loss to fall to 8-2 on the season after allowing one earned run on five hits in six innings of work.

Baylor grabbed an early 1-0 lead over the Sooners in game two. After Harmony Schwethelm reached on an error by Oklahoma catcher Heather Scaglione, she came around to score when Stephanie Pomes' pop-up to shallow left could not be caught by a trio of OU fielders as Baylor grabbed a one-run lead.

After a scoreless second and third innings, Lynam extended the Lady Bears lead to two when she led off the fourth with a home run to right-center field, her seventh of the season, as Baylor took a 2-0 lead.

Trailing 2-0, a two-out rally in the bottom of the inning gave the Sooners the lead. After back-to-back singles, Keiter hit a three-run home run well over the left field wall as Oklahoma grabbed a 3-2 lead. Oklahoma then loaded the bases, however, Nicole Jackson forced Kristin Vesely to fly out to center as Baylor trailed by one heading into the fifth.

Baylor then exploded for four runs in the fifth as the Lady Bears re-took the lead. Chelsi Lake tied the game for the Lady Bears when she doubled down the right field line to score Osburn from second to tie the game at 3-3. Stephanie Pomes then gave the BU the lead as she blasted a three-run home run well over the center field wall off of Keiter, who had relieved Stacy Braddock, to make the score 6-3. The home run was the 11th of the season for Pomes and the third for the third baseman in the last three games.

Keiter struck again in the sixth, however, as Oklahoma cut the lead to one when the left-handed batter hit her second home run of the game, this time over the right-center field wall, scoring Fox from first to make the score 6-5.

Lynam came into the game in relief, however, and managed to hold the slim lead as she recorded her third save of the season after retiring the Sooners in order in the bottom of the inning.

Baylor will return to action on Thursday, April 21, when the Lady Bears travel to San Marcos, Texas, to face Texas State at 6:00 p.m.
