SAN MARCOS, Texas - Baylor freshman middle blocker Anna Breyfogle (Buda, Texas) hit .615 with a career-high 17 kills and added five digs and six blocks as the Bears got off to a slow start but rebounded for a 3-1 (25-30, 30-19, 30-21, 30-26) victory, their fifth in a row, over Texas State Tuesday night at Strahan Coliseum.
Senior outside hitter Nicole LeBlanc (Tampa, Fla.) posted her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs, while senior middle blocker Desiree Guilliard-Young (Berkeley, Calif.) also had 13 kills and added three blocks. Freshmen Lauren Keeton (Groesbeck, Texas) and Katie Sanders (Katy, Texas) had seven kills each with Sanders adding five blocks. Freshman setter Taylor Barnes (Arlington, Texas) had three kills, a career-high 51 assists and five digs.
Junior libero Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) led the Bears (7-1) defensively with 21 digs, while senior outside hitter Deja Sweeney (Sacramento, Calif.) added 11.
Lawrencia Brown led the Bobcats (3-4) with 19 kills and added eight digs, one of six Bobcats with at least eight digs. Kacey Wimpy led Texas State with 11 digs.
The Bears hit .299 for the match, while holding the Bobcats to .156. Baylor outdug Texas State, 70-69, and outblocked them, 11.5-3.0.
Baylor returns to action at the Austin Bank/SFA Volleyball Invitational Friday and Saturday in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Bears open with Arkansas State at noon, followed by Stephen F. Austin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and two more matches Saturday. The audio broadcast will be available for all four matches 15 minutes prior to the start of the match.
