Box Score

NORMAN, Okla. - The Baylor softball team (27-14, 3-3) picked up a 5-0 shutout victory over No. 12 Oklahoma (28-11, 5-3) in game one, but fell short, 4-0 in the nightcap Wednesday in Norman. The shutout win was the first for Baylor in the history of the series with Oklahoma.

Whitney Canion allowed only two runners to advance as far as second in game one, as the freshman picked up her eighth shutout of the season, going 7.0 innings, allowing four hits, walking two and striking out eight. Canion combined on the night, she allowed just one earned run in 13 innings.

Kayce Walker and Alex Colyer each registered three hits in the doubleheader, as Colyer went 3-for-4 with two RBI in game one.

Baylor came through with a run in the second to get the early lead as Courtney Oberg blasted a home run over the center field wall for her fourth homer of the year.

Two more runs came across in the third, as Sydney Wilson led off with a single and advanced to second on an error by the shortstop. A Bree Hanafin sacrifice bunt allowed Wilson to advance to third, and after a Tiffany Wesley single, Wesley stole second and a throwing error by the catcher allowed Wilson to score from third. With Wesley at third, Alex Colyer laced an RBI-double for a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Bears added a pair of runs in the fifth after Hanafin led off with a double. After a sac bunt, Colyer delivered an RBI-single to add to the lead. But the Baylor bats were not done, as two batters later Oberg ripped a single to bring Colyer around for a 5-0 lead.

Game Two

Katie Norris got the Sooners on the board in the bottom of the second by leading off the inning with a solo blast to left center. OU tried to add to the lead, loading the bases with no outs, but Canion worked her way out of the jam with three-straight outs and allowed no more runs to keep the game at 1-0.

A sac fly with one out after an error and an RBI-double added three runs to the Oklahoma lead in the fourth, giving OU a 4-0 advantage.

Baylor threatened in the fifth, as a leadoff double by Nicole Wesley and a single by Meagan Weldon put runners on the corners with no outs. After a strikeout got away, pinch runner KJ Freeland to advance to second, but a strikeout and a groundout ended the threat.

With two outs in the seventh, Baylor began a rally with a single by Jordan Vannatta and a hit-by-pitch by Hanafin, but a groundout ended the game, giving OU the win.

Canion picked up the loss going 6.0 innings, giving up eight hits, four runs, one earned and striking out one.

Baylor will return home for a weekend series against Oklahoma State beginning on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Saturday's game will be "Power In Pink Day" in support of breast cancer awareness.
