NEW ORLEANS, La. - Baylor (11-1) survived a scare from Binghamton (1-10) to collect a 3-2 win (25-14, 23-25, 25-16, 17-25, 15-13) and a seventh-straight victory in day one of the Katy Trosclair Memorial Tournament on Friday evening. The 11-1 mark thru the first 12 matches the 2009 squad's record for the best start in program history.

"We are young and looked like it today," head coach Jim Barnes said. "We had so many ups and downs in the match and were inconsistent, but when we needed it most, we got the tough points and won the match."

Adri Nora led the way with 14 kills, her third double-digit kill performance in the last four matches. The Bears had three other players record at least 10 kills, as Alyssa Dibbern (11), Torri Campbell (10) and Zoe Adom (10) helped guide the offensive attack. Kate Harris added her sixth double-double with 46 assists and 18 digs, leading the way in both categories. Thea Munch-Soegaard (14 digs) picked up her fifth double-digit dig performance and Mackenzie Mayo added 11.

The Bears hit just over their season average of .229 by swinging .237 in the match, while Baylor's 10 blocks and 66 digs forced the Bearcats to hit just .168.

Baylor jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the opening set, forcing Binghamton to use a timeout, and extended it to 13-4 before the Bearcats used their second. Binghamton never got closer than seven the rest of the way, as the Bears' defense forced the Bearcats to swing .045 in the first. Baylor swung a match-best .348 in the opening set.

Binghamton led for a majority of set two before the Bears could battle it to a 19-19 tie. After three-straight from the Bearcats, Baylor cut it to one two different times but couldn't complete the comeback, falling 25-23. The Green and Gold swung just .171 in the second set, while Binghamton hit .241.

Tied at seven in set three, Baylor went on an 8-1 run to separate itself, never looking back. Adom had six kills on seven attacks in the set, pacing Baylor's .471 hitting percentage.

A 4-0 run from the Bears gave them an 11-7 lead in set four, but Binghamton answered with a 10-1 run of its own to eventually force a fifth set. Baylor managed just 10 kills and a .054 hitting percentage in the 25-17 defeat.

With intensity picking up in set five, Baylor and Binghamton exchanged points before the Bearcats took a 12-8 lead and forced a Baylor timeout. The Bears came out swinging, going on a 6-0 run and taking control of the set, ultimately winning 15-13.

Baylor will wrap up tournament play against UTEP on Saturday at 10 a.m. and then face host Tulane at 7 p.m.
