LAKE CHARLES, La. - Baylor (7-1) came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Arkansas State (4-5) 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23) Friday afternoon in its first match of the Big Daddy's Invitational. The Bears have won three-straight matches and have won seven of their first eight for the second consecutive season.

"We were not sharp out of the gate and took us a while to get going," head coach Jim Barnes said. "Arkansas State is a good opponent and we finally picked it up in sets three and four."

Alyssa Dibbern led the way with 12 kills, her third-straight match of at least 10 kills and fifth of the season. Zoe Adom made her first start of the season, recording 10 kills to go with six digs. Kate Harris collected her second double-double of the year after adding 13 digs to her 36 assists. Defensively, Mackenzie Mayo guided the team with 15 digs.

Baylor, which hit .158 in the match, held the Red Wolves to a .109 hitting percentage and out-blocked ASU 8-4.

Trailing 13-11 in the opening set, Baylor called a timeout and went on a 5-1 run to take a two-point lead. The Red Wolves battled back, tying it a 18 and never looking back. Adom led BU in the opener with four kills, while Laura Jones added three.

The Bears came out on fire in the second, opening with a 4-0 run. Arkansas State used a 6-2 run of its own to tie the match. Battling back and forth, BU finally took a two-point lead at 20-18 but ASU came right back tying it at 20. With the Red Wolves holding a 23-21 lead, Baylor scored the final four points for the second-set win. The set, which featured nine ties, saw Baylor pick up its blocking with four total team blocks. Alyssa Dibbern recorded four kills in the set and Adrien Richburg had three of her own.

With the third set tied at five, the Bears took a 6-5 lead and never looked back, leading by as many as six before the final margin of seven. Baylor swung .323 in the third with Adom, Dibbern and Torri Campbell each totaling three kills and Mackenzie Mayo collecting seven digs on the defensive side.

Arkansas State jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the fourth, but BU chipped away with a 6-1 run to tie it back at 8-8. Baylor took its first lead of the set at 13-12 off an ace from Kate Harris, but Arkansas State went on a 5-1 run for the three-point lead. Battling to a 22-22 tie, the Bears scored three of the set's next four points, ending with a kill by Dibbern for the 25-23 win.

Baylor will next be in action tonight, taking on McNeese State at 7 p.m. CT at Memorial Gym.
