GREELEY, Colo. - Baylor (0-2) dropped its second-straight match to start the season on the heartbreaking end of a five-set thriller with Cal Poly Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs (1-1) defeated the Bears 25-20, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13, overcoming Baylor's .366 hitting percentage to take the victory at Northern Colorado's Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion.
A night after Colorado State swept the Bears and held their offense to a .071 hitting percentage, Baylor's offensive effort improved but fell short. Zoe Adom led Baylor in a losing effort with 17 kills, Katie Staiger added 15 and Thea Munch-Soegaard had 13.
Hannah Schleis led the Mustangs with 20 kills, and in the fifth and deciding set, Cal Poly trailed 13-12 before taking the final three points to take the match.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Three players in double-digit kills for Baylor: Zoe Adom (17), Katie Staiger (15), Thea Munch-Soegaard (13).
• Amy Rosenbaum passed her previous career high in assists (13) with 47.
• Nicole Bardaji had a career high- with six blocks, Zoe Adom matched a career-high with six and Adrien Richburg led with eight, one shy of her career-high.
• Laura Jones came to the floor after a long break in the fifth set with two-straight kills to give Baylor a 10-8 lead in the fifth set.
