INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - In its first match at the BNP Paribas Collegiate Challenge presented by Oracle, the third-ranked Baylor men's tennis team posted a 4-0 shutout over BYU Friday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Baylor (13-2) earned the victory and handed BYU (8-10) its fifth straight loss by getting the doubles point and singles wins at the No. 2, 4, and 6 spots.
To open the match, Felipe Rios and Vince Schneider continued their dominant play by capturing a 6-0 victory over Jeremy Bourgeois and David Ball, 6-0, on court three. The BU duo has now won 10 straight matches.
Moments later the Bears clinched the point when the 77th-ranked pairing of Julian Lenz and Diego Galeano blasted past Francis Sargeant and Shane Monroe, 6-4, to earn the victory.
In singles action, the 36th-ranked Tchoutakian made quick work of Monroe, posting a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court two.
Schneider wasn't far behind with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Jacob Sullivan at the No. 4 spot.
Rios clinched the match for the Bears with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Aidan Carrazedo on court six.
With the match decided, singles contests on courts one, three and five were abandoned.
