GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Baylor track and field flies east to compete at the Tom Jones Memorial, hosted by the University of Florida Gators, on Friday and Saturday. The meet begins with the men's hammer throw at 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon and discus at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Baylor joins the field of 40 competing teams, including Alabama, Arkansas, Clemson, UCF, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, NC State, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Texas Tech, who all have at least one team in the USTFCCCA top-25.
BU enters the meet with the men's team ranked at No. 20 in the nation, with the women at No. 56.
Seven Bears lead the conference in their respective events, including
Imaobong Uko (200m),
Mariah Ayers (400m),
Hasani Barr (400m),
Nathaniel Ezekiel (400mH),
Annamaria Kostarellis (10,000m),
Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi (javelin) and the men's 4x400-meter relay teams. BU's seven No. 1 marks ranks second in the Big 12 conference, behind only Texas with 13.
Kostarellis, Ezekiel, Prosper Nnamdi and the men's 4x400-meter relay represent the Bears in the top-10 lists of their events nationally, with Ezekiel and Prosper Nnamdi at No. 2.
So far in the outdoor season, the Bears have already set three new program records in the women's 4x200-meter relay,
Gary Moore Jr. in the hammer throw and Kostarellis in the 10,000 meters. Just three meets into the outdoor season, a total of 15 new marks have been added to the program all-time list.
