WACO, Texas - The Bears' largest crowd of the season saw No. 23 Texas A&M easily handle No. 6 Baylor Friday night in a 7-2 Aggie win at Baylor Ballpark.
A paying crowd of 4,717 fans, the third-largest total in program history, watched Texas A&M (22-8, 4-3 Big 12) bat around in the fourth, scoring four times to take a 5-0 lead on the Bears (21-8, 5-2 Big 12).
That would be more than enough support for Aggie starter Logan Kensing (5-3), who went eight innings and held the Bears to just six hits and one run. Kyle Parcus gave up a single unearned run in his one inning of relief.
Baylor starter Steven White (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season. The senior stuck out nine and walked just two in 5 1/3 innings, but gave up eight hits and seven runs (six earned).
Freshmen Russell Reichenbach and Ryan LaMotta finished out the sixth inning in relief of White. Rookie Andy Pape held the Aggies hitless over the final three innings, tying his longest outing of the season.
Ross Bennett drove in the Bears' only two runs when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded not once, but twice.
The series now shifts to Olsen Field and College Station, where the Bears and Aggies will square off Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
NOTES: Chris Durbin's double in the third inning moved him into a tie for the Baylor career doubles record with Eric Nelson, who has 64 two-base hits from 1996-1999... Seth Fortenberry went 0-for-3 on the night, snapping an eight-game hitting streak... The Bears lost for the first time this season when striking out 10 or more batters (8-1)... Friday's defeat was just the second loss for the Bears in White's nine starts.
