THE RUNDOWN

WACO, Texas -- Baylor volleyball (16-9, 4-7 Big 12) rolled through the West Virginia Mountaineers (5-18, 0-10 Big 12) in three sets, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20, at the Ferrell Center.

Despite a spotty attacking effort by BU, posting just a .174 attacking effort as a team, the BU defense won the day, holding WVU to a .041 attacking mark, and recording 11 blocks as a team.

Building early leads in the first and second set, the Bears were able to cruise to a 2-0 match lead with relative ease.

The Mountaineers carried a one point lead only twice in the match's three sets, both coming in the third set. After taking a 1-0 lead to open the third, WVU traded points with the Bears through most of the set, taking a 14-13 lead before Baylor responded with a 4-0 run to regain a lead that they would never lose.

Following a double-double performance on Wednesday in a win over Texas Tech, Andie Malloy was the most effective attacker for either squad, carrying a match-high in kills (11), and adding 13 digs to post her second-consecutive double-double.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Andie Malloy's 11 kills and 13 digs earned her the 27th double-double of her career and her eighth of the season.

- Adrien Richburg had a match-high 6 blocks, bringing her week total up to 16.

- Jana Brusek had a match-high 14 digs.

- Morgan Reed recorded 10 assists, with the first of the match going down as the 800th of her career.

- BU matched the most home wins in a season (9) since 2011.

- BU held WVU to .041, the first time the Bears have held an opponent under .100 since Oct. 9, 2015 (Texas State, .064).

- WVU's .041 is the lowest attacking percentage of any BU opponent this season.

STAT OF THE DAY
.041 -- WVU's attacking percentage in the match, good for the best defensive effort of the season by Baylor.

TOP QUOTE
"We had some errors, not typical of what we can do, but credit to them and what they were doing offensively. The second and third set, were never really, really clean. Maybe that was the problem, maybe we thought we were in control instead of taking control in each of those situations. We were still getting some good production from our middles, and I'd like to continue to see more of that going forward, but good team win for us at home in front of our fans." --Head Coach Ryan McGuyre

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor hosts TCU on Wednesday, Nov. 11th at 7 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.

Despite having only one of its pin hitters "in rhythm," the Baylor volleyball team (16-9, 4-7) won its second match in a row and completed a season sweep of West Virginia Saturday night at the Ferrell Center.

Senior Andie Malloy had a double-double with 13 digs and a match-high 11 kills and added five blocks as the Bears finished off the Mountaineers (5-18, 0-10) in straight sets, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20. Their .041 hitting percentage was a season-low for a Baylor opponent.

"Anything other than (a win) would have been devastating at this stage," said Baylor head coach Ryan McGuyre. "I thought we could have been cleaner. We started the match very, very well and kind of did just enough to make the scores look closer and let them hang around a little bit."

With Malloy serving, the Bears reeled off seven straight points and jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first set, a run that was capped by a combo block from Tola Itiola and Adrien Richburg. WVU pulled back within 22-19 on a service ace by Taylor Cross, but the Bears closed it out with a Malloy kill and back-to-back attack errors.

Baylor had four of its 11 team blocks in the first set and held the Mountaineers to a minus-.29 hitting percentage with nine kills and 10 errors on 34 swings.

"Blocking was key," Malloy said of Baylor's 11-3 edge in blocks. "We've been working on connections with blocking and defense. If the blocking isn't there, the defense will be there to cover their back."

McGuyre said the defense, which also had a 38-30 edge in digs, was "good."

"We had them (with a negative hitting percentage) in the first set, and honestly had some blocks split through our hands," he said. "I want to either block it or get a clean dig."

Like the first set, the Bears never trailed in the second, going up 11-4. But WVU rallied again, closing to within 23-20 on an attack error by Malloy, before Baylor closed it out with kills from Malloy and freshman Shelly Fanning.

Easily the most competitive set, the third featured six ties and three lead changes. But the Bears took the lead for good with back-to-back blocks by Malloy and freshman Jordan Vail and closed it out, 25-20.

Malloy hit .450 with 11 kills and only two errors in 20 swings and also had one of the team's five aces. Adrien Richburg, who had a career-high 10 blocks in Wednesday's win at Texas Tech, added six blocks, five kills and a .333 hitting percentage.

"They set real high balls to the pins, and I thought our blockers did a good job of slowing down and timing that," McGuyre said. "But Shelly was never in rhythm, Katie was never in rhythm. Andie was really our only pin hitter in rhythm. Where we've been a little more pin-dominated this year, that's where we struggled tonight. But a win's a win."

The Bears continue their three-match home stand with a matchup against TCU (16-7, 6-5) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. TCU won the first meeting in five sets, but lost 3-0 to Iowa State on Saturday.

"It's fun when you have matches that mean something," McGuyre said. "That's probably a message I need to share with them more often. We're into November, and you guys have matches that mean something. Not many teams can say that."
