ALFRED ANDERSON, Waco, Texas (Football, 1980-83) – 1997
Recording just the fourth 1,000-yard season in program history, Anderson tallied 1,046 yards as a senior in 1983 when he earned unanimous All-Southwest Conference honors and helped the Bears finish 7-4-1 with a trip to the Bluebonnet Bowl.
More than 35 years later, he still ranks fifth all-time with 2,424 career yards rushing and is No. 2 among all position players with 220 points and 35 rushing touchdowns. Following his senior season, he played in both the East-West Shrine and Japan Bowl all-star games and was a third-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings.
Named to Baylor’s All-Decade team of the 1980s along with fellow Hall of Famers Walter Abercrombie and Dennis Gentry, Anderson rushed for 2,374 yards and 22 touchdowns and added 114 catches for 1,042 yards and five TDs in his eight-year NFL career.
