"I think the players need it, I think the staff needs it, I think the fanbase needs it, I think the alumni need it," Joe Klanderman said. "And I want to try to provide that. I want to try to be that spark in any way that I can through who I am. I'm not going to be anything that I'm not. . . . This is Waco's team, this is Central Texas's team. I want people to know what's going on here. I think we're taking steps in that direction already, trying to provide a jolt of energy."

SIGHTS SET HIGH

"I didn't know what to think, because I love track so much," senior Mackenize Brown said. "Not knowing what's going on with my heart and not knowing the outcome definitely made me want to get closer to the Lord. It was definitely an obstacle in my way, but I knew that God has a plan for me, and it turned out great."

OPEN DOORS

From a walk-on safety who knew no one when he came in after high school graduation in May 2022, Michael Allen leaves the Baylor program as a team captain who earned the respect of every one of his teammates and as a future coach who has been a welcomed regular in defensive staff meetings for the last three years.

ONLY TAKES A SPARK

After going three-and-out on their opening series, the Bears scored touchdowns on their next three drives against Arizona State, starting with Ryelan Morris's big run.

IT'S WHAT SHE DOES

Scoring 18 career goals, including a team-high six this season for ninth-ranked Baylor soccer, senior midfielder Aryanna Jimison has clearly got "all kinds of stuff in her bag."

TIPPING THE SCALES

There are more than a handful of game balls to pass out after the Baylor Bears handed Colorado a 23-13 loss on Sept. 26 at McLane Stadium.

'IN GOD'S HANDS'

"There is that itch to be out there," Nate Bennett said. "You want to be out there. . . . I understand it, but I just kind of released the rope and gave it to God and put it in God's hands.''

ANOTHER BIG-TIME THREAT

"From where he's been and what he's had to overcome and the hurdles he's had to go through, it's really cool to see him have this moment," Coach Dave Aranda said. "He was really happy. And I thought his joy transferred over to a lot of guys, which is way cool."

FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Baylor's identity starts up front. Dave Aranda and the Bears are counting on a rebuilt defensive line and an aggressive new scheme to set the tone this season.
