FRANK B. BRIDGES, Savannah, Ga. (Head Football Coach, 1920-25; Head Baseball Coach, 1920-27; Head Basketball Coach, 1920-26) – 1967

Coaching football, basketball and baseball at Baylor in the 1920s, Bridges led the football team to a six-year record of 35-18-6 and Southwest Conference championships in 1922 and ’24 and also piloted the baseball team to 88 wins and a league title in 1923.

The Georgia native and Harvard grad attempted nearly every trick and strategy the rules allowed during his successful run as the football coach, introducing the spread formation, the hidden-ball play, the end-around and tackle-around. Bridges went on to coach at Hardin-Simmons and St. Mary’s University and was also co-head coach of the NFL’s Brooklyn Tigers with Pete Cawthon and Ed Kubale in 1944.

Inducted in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1973, Bridges also worked for several years as a major league baseball scout and signed several outstanding players. He died in 1970 at the age of 79.
