MARK ADICKES, Killeen, Texas (Football, 1979-83) – 1996
Named to Baylor’s All-Decade team for the 1980s, Adickes was a four-year letterman at offensive tackle who was a unanimous All-Southwest Conference pick and earned first-team All-American honors by the Sporting News as a senior in 1983.
Taken with the fifth pick overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1984 NFL Supplemental Draft, Adickes played two seasons with the USFL’s Los Angeles Express before a six-year NFL career with the Chiefs and Washington Redskins. He retired after playing on the Redskins’ Super Bowl championship team in 1991.
At 31, Adickes went back to school at George Mason University and then Harvard Medical School, completing his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic. One of the top orthopedic surgeons in the country, he has served as team physician for the Houston Rockets and U.S. Ski Team and as an NFL injury analyst with ESPN.
