ROBERT BLACKMON, Van Vleck, Texas (Football, 1986-89) – 2003
One of Baylor’s all-time best defensive backs, Blackmon was a three-time All-Southwest Conference pick and earned All-America honors as a senior in 1989 when he made eight interceptions.
The program’s all-time career leader with four interceptions returned for touchdowns, Blackmon returned two each in games against Houston in 1987 and Texas in ’89, sparking a 50-7 rout of the Longhorns for Baylor’s first win in Austin in 38 years. He also ranks high on the career lists for interceptions (14), interception return yardage (275) and yards per return (19.6) and shares the single-game record with three interceptions in that 1989 game against Texas.
Selected to play in the Hula Bowl and East-West Shrine all-star games, Blackmon was drafted in the second round (34th pick overall) by the Seattle Seahawks in 1990 and played nine years in the NFL with the Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts before retiring in 1998.
Prior to coming to Baylor, Blackmon was a Class 3A all-state defensive back, second-team all-state quarterback and also won a state championship in the 110-meter hurdles.
