Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame
W. RUSSELL BLAILOCK, Waco, Texas (Football, 1920-22; Track, 1921-22) – 1965
One of the Bears’ early stalwarts in the trenches, Blailock was a two-time consensus All-Southwest Conference selection at tackle as a junior and senior.
Named to Baylor’s All-Decade team of the 1920s, Blailock joined teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Wesley Bradshaw as the first two-time consensus All-SWC selections for the Bears. With Blailock helping pave the way and Bradshaw running wild, Baylor went a combined 16-6 in 1921 and ’22 and won the school’s first conference championship with an 8-3 mark during Blailock’s senior season.
A shot putter for the track and field team, Blailock played two seasons in the NFL with the Milwaukee Badgers in 1923 and the Akron Pros in 1925. He died of a heart attack in 1972 at the age of 69, seven years after his Baylor Hall of Fame induction.
