Cross Country In Action At Arkansas Invitational

FAYETTVILLE, Ark. - Baylor's men's and women's cross country teams will be in action here Saturday at the Arkansas Chili Pepper Invitational. The men's team is ranked fifth in the South Central Region Coaches Poll, while the women are ranked eighth. Host Arkansas is ranked first in both polls.
This will be the largest Chili Pepper Invitational ever with teams from both the Division I ranks and the Division II ranks competing. The women will run a 6,000-meter course, while the men will run the 8,000 meters.
Joining Baylor and host Arkansas in the field will be Abilene Christian, Arkansas Tech, Cal-Davis, Colorado Christian, Hendrix, Iowa, Jackson State, Kansas, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana State, Mississippi State, Nebraska-Kearney, New Mexico State, New Orleans, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts, Pacific, Southern Nazarene, Southwest Missouri State, Southwest Texas State, Texas-Arlington, Texas Christian, Tulsa and Wichita State.
Baylor's men's team will be led by sophomore Ferenc Bekesi. He has been Baylor's top finisher in each of the Bears' first two meets, finishing second at last month's Baylor Invitational with a time of 26:40 in the five-mile race. On the women's side, Baylor will be paced by junior Kara Newton, who was named the Big 12 cross country athlete of the week after finishing first at the North Texas Invitational with a time of 17:23 in the three-mile race.
