Former NFL wide receiver and Baylor letterman Ricky Thompson is joining the Bears' football radio broadcast team as its sideline color analyst, the school announced Friday.
Thompson, a two-sport letterwinner and a member of Baylor's Athletic Hall of Fame, will work alongside Baylor play-by-play announcer John Morris and fellow analyst Walter Abercrombie on the Baylor Radio Network.
"I'm thrilled to be a part of Baylor football again, and I'm looking forward to working with John and Walter," said Thompson. "I feel great about what (head coach) Kevin (Steele) and his staff are doing with Baylor football, and I know there are going to be some exciting days ahead."
Thompson, a former Southwest Conference long jump champion, led the Bears in receiving in 1975 before embarking on a seven-year NFL career, primarily with the Washington Redskins. Thompson is currently Executive Vice-President and Director of the First National Bank of Central Texas in Waco.
"Ricky is a tremendous addition to Baylor's football broadcasts," said Morris, Baylor's director of broadcasting. "Because of his football knowledge and experience, he will be able to offer a unique insight to our listeners. Ricky and Walter are highly respected and recognizable throughout the Baylor community and we know Baylor people will look forward to hearing their thoughts and comments."
"Ricky is one of the finest people I know and I'm looking forward to having him as a part of the team this fall," said Steele. "His presence around our team before and after games will be a constant reminder of what Baylor University is all about."
Baylor opens the 2000 season Aug. 31 at North Texas.
