WACO, Texas - Baylor quartermiler Brandon Couts was tabbed as the men's National Athlete of the Week by Trackwire Online. It is the second time Couts has received the honor this year. He shared the honor with the men's 4x400 meter relay team during the indoor season.
Last weekend in Houston, Couts clocked the first automatic qualifying time of the season with a 44.74. The time is the top collegiate mark in the nation and was bested only twice during the 1999 outdoor season. Couts is the current National Champion in the indoor 400 meters and a likely favorite for the outdoor title.
Trackwire Online also released their first outdoor national poll for men and women. The Baylor men were ranked sixth and are the only Big 12 team in the top 10. The women's squad came in at number 20. Stanford tops the men's poll and USC is number one in the women's.
The Bears will compete this weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin.
