WACO, Texas - Baylor senior infielder Preston Underdown and junior pitcher Kyle Evans have been named to the 11-man GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-District VI baseball team. With the honor, both are now automatically nominated for GTE Academic All-America consideration.
Underdown, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., has earned a 3.49 grade point average as a finance major and is batting .293 in 47 games as the Bears' starting second baseman.
Evans has established a 3.62 GPA while majoring in management information systems. A native of Albuquerque, N.M., Evans owns a 9-1 record on the mound with a 3.18 ERA. The junior pitched a no-hitter against Iowa State earlier this season, the first nine-inning no-hitter for Baylor in 22 seasons.
Baylor, 39-14, travels to Manhattan, Kan., Friday for a three-game Big 12 Conference series with Kansas State. The Bears need one win to clinch a share of the league title and two wins to clinch their first outright conference title in 77 years. Friday's first pitch is set for 4 p.m. CDT.
