Women's Tennis Trio Honored

WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis head coach Dave Luedtke and two players, Vida Mulec and Claudia Aguilar, have been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Luedtke was named Wilson/ITA Southwest Region Coach of the Year while Mulec earned ITA Southwest Region Rookie Player of the Year kudos and Aguilar was honored with the Region's Cissie Leary Award For Sportsmanship.
Luedtke's selection as Southwest Region Coach of the Year marks the third time he's received the award. He was also honored in 1996 and 1997. For the third time he led the Bears to a second place finish in conference play. The Bears finished the season with a 22-5 record which included and a No. 19 national ranking. In his 13 seasons at Baylor, Luedtke has taken a program that was a perennial doormat of the conference to a national contender.
Mulec, a freshman from Maribor, Slovenia, was most impressive in her first year at the collegiate level, resulting in Regional Rookie Player of the Year honors. The righthander finished the season at 25-12 playing at No. 3 singles and put together a string of 10 straight singles victories. Mulec and her doubles partner Katja Kovac, playing at the No. 1 spot, were named All-Big 12 in doubles, the duo earned a No. 31 national ranking.
Aguilar earned the prestigious Cissie Leary Award For Sportsmanship. This honor goes to a women's player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. The senior from College Station, Texas posted a 19-12 record this season at No. 6 singles. She is recognized as the team's leader both on and off the court and is an excellent role model.
