WACO, Texas - Baylor head football coach Kevin Steele announced Tuesday that Palomar (Calif.) Junior College quarterback Greg Cicero has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Bears. Cicero, who has two years of eligibility remaining, will enroll at Baylor in January and participate in the Bears' spring drills.
Cicero, a 6-4, 205-pound native of Anaheim, Calif., passed for 2,800 yards and 33 touchdowns this past fall while leading PJC to an 8-3 record. He completed 60 percent of his passes (156-of-260).
Cicero spent the 1997 and 1998 seasons at the University of Texas. After redshirting in 1997, he was injured for most of 1998 before transferring to Palomar.
"Greg is talented and successful young man who gives us more experience at the quarterback position," said Steele. "His exposure to the Big 12 and his success in junior college will enable him to compete for the job this spring and in August."
Ranked the nation's 16th-best high school quarterback by SuperPrep, Cicero threw for 5,570 yards and 59 touchdowns with only 17 interceptions while leading Anaheim's Servite High School to a two-year record of 22-5 as a junior and senior. Servite played in three- straight state championship games with Cicero under center.
Junior college players who completed their course work in December were able to sign a national letter of intent beginning Dec. 15. National signing day for high school seniors is Feb. 2.
