Bears Coast Past Horned Frogs, 8-3

FT. WORTH, Texas - Senior Preston Underdown slugged a two-run triple to spark an offensive explosion in the fourth inning and lead the Baylor baseball team to an 8-3 win over TCU on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Bears improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Horned Frogs fall to 4-7.
After two-and-a-half scoreless innings, Baylor's Anthony Hensley walked and then stole second to get into scoring position. Designated hitter Ross Bennett singled to bring Hensley in and put the Bears on the board 1-0.
In the fourth, Kelly Shoppach reached base after being hit by the pitcher and Steve Dorneman singled to centerfield. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Underdown brought the score to 3-0 with his triple. Freshman Ron Zboril walked and advanced on a wild pitch before Hensley hit a sacrifice fly to bring him in and put Baylor up 5-0
Senior Chad Hawkins went 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. He struck out seven batters and walked just one to improve his record to 2-1. Kyle Edens came in for 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and striking out two to earn his first save of the season.
Defensively, the Bears were sharp. Right fielder Jaime Bubela threw out two runners at home, and catcher Shoppach caught three Frogs stealing.
Baylor and TCU will meet again Saturday in Waco. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the Baylor Ballpark.
