MANHATTAN, Kan. - Bryan Loeb, Mike Huggins and Anthony Hensley each hit home runs to lead the Baylor baseball team to a 10-7 win over Kansas State Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Bears improve to 42-14 on the season, 23-7 in conference play. The Wildcats finish their season with a 19-32 overall record and a 5-24 conference mark. Baylor's sweep of K-State marks the fifth time this season the Bears have swept a Big 12 opponent.
After a scoreless first inning, catcher Bryan Loeb swung at the second pitch and smacked a solo home run to left field to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats rallied with three runs in the fourth inning to move ahead, 3-1.
In the fifth inning, the Bears scored three runs of their own. Mark Saccomanno and Anthony Hensley each walked to put runners in scoring position. Jace Brewer slugged an RBI single to plate Saccomanno, and Hensley came in on an error by the pitcher to put Baylor up 4-3.
K-State again regained the lead with a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth, but the Bears struck back with four runs in the seventh inning. Saccomanno led off with a stand-up double to left field and Hensley walked to put runners at first and second. Brewer reached base on an error by the third baseman, which brought in Saccomanno. Huggins then hit a two-run homer to put the win away for Baylor.
Although Baylor starter Josh Scott performed well, reliever Scott Lehnhoff (3-0) got the win, giving up two runs on three hits in one inning of work. Closer Zane Carlson earned his 15th save of the season. K-State starter Chad Duckers (4-5) took the loss, giving up eight runs on seven hits in six and one-third innings.
Baylor next travels to Oklahoma City for the Big 12 tournament. The Bears are the No. 1 seed and will face No. 8 seed Texas A&M Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Bricktown Ballpark.
