SAN MARCOS, Texas - For the second straight game, pinch hitter Steve Dorneman came off the bench to drive in the game-winning run in the 11th inning and lead the Baylor baseball team to a 6-3 win at Southwest Texas State Tuesday night in San Marcos.
With the win, the Bears improve to 25-10 on the season, while the Bobcats fall to 16-20. Reliever Kyle Edens (2-0) earned the win for Baylor. Freshman Zane Carlson threw an outstanding 11th inning to earn his ninth save of the season, and his third in five days.
Although the Bobcats struck first with a run in the first inning, the Bears rallied when freshman Chris Durbin smacked a two-run homer to right field to put Baylor up 2-0 in the top of the second inning.
Southwest Texas scored runs in the sixth and the seventh to take a 3-2 lead, but Kelly Shoppach evened the score with a solo home run in the eighth.
In the 11th inning, Shoppach singled to right center and Matt Williams walked to put runners in scoring position. Dorneman doubled down the right line to bring in both runners and put the game away for Baylor.
The Bears host UT-Arlington Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the Baylor Ballpark.
