COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Chad Hawkins made three early runs stand up as Baylor defeated Texas A&M in College Station on Friday, 3-2.
Hawkins (3-2) went the distance, striking out nine and allowing only two unearned runs.
Baylor (13-3, 3-1 Big 12) struck early, scoring in the first when Mike Huggins walked and Jace Brewer singled with one out. Matt Williams followed with another base hit, driving in Huggins from second for a 1-0 lead.
In the third, Huggins scored again. He reached on an error, advanced to second on a walk, and scored on a Steve Dorneman RBI single.
Baylor's final tally came in the fourth as Anthony Hensley manufactured a run by himself. After singling, he stole second and third base and came home when the catcher's throw to third got away.
Texas A&M (9-8, 3-1 Big 12) pushed across a pair of runs in the seventh. Carlos Sepulveda homered with two outs after Jeff Freeman had reached on an error by Huggins. Hawkins closed the door on the Aggies from there on out for the win.
