Baylor Women Open Big 12 Tourney With Win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Baylor women's tennis advances to the semifinals in the Big 12 Tournament by defeating Kansas, 5-2.
At No. one singles, No. 17-ranked Jahnavi Parekh defeated Brooke Chiller, 6-2, 6-0. No. 61-ranked Katja Kovac was defeated by Cheryl Mallaiah, 6-4, 6-1. Vida Mulec defeated Monica Sekulov, 6-2, 6-3. Karin Andersson defeated Tiffany Chang, 6-4, 6-3. Frida Borjesson defeated Lisa Mallaiah, 6-3, 7-6 (6), and Claudia Aguilar was defeated by Christi Wagenaar, 6-2, 7-5.
Entering Doubles play, Baylor lead Kansas, 4-2. Baylor sealed the win with No. 31-ranked Kovac and Mulec defeating Kansas' Chiller and Cheryl Mallaiah, 8-2.
"It was a good match. Kansas is a very good team. We came out with a high energy level and a lot of excitement, and won the earlier matches. We knew that a good start was important, and fortunately we got off to a good on," Coach Dave Luedtke said.
The Bears will play tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M.
"Texas A&M is a very talented team. We know them well and I am sure tomorrow's match will be a good one" said Luedtke.
