Waco, Texas - After a spirited and productive Monday morning workout, Baylor football coach Kevin Steele was "disappointed in certain areas" following the Bears' afternoon practice session.
"This morning we had a lot of spirit and got a lot of good work done," Steele said, "but I'm not too happy right now. We had several individuals who went out there and worked their tail off, but we had some guys out there who weren't focused and we had some guys not taking care of their business.
"It's a team sport. You can't miss a cylinder, they all have to be firing. We're a young football team in many regards. We have to learn that when you're this tired and it's this hot, you have to be disciplined enough to focus. That's the difference between being successful and not being successful."
Steele commented on a trio of freshmen - defensive end Billy Crawford and defensive backs Jack Wallace and John Garrett - who worked at linebacker Monday.
"We have to create some competition at that position. These young guys can run and they'll hit you. They'll compete for playing time."
After being hospitalized with a minor neck injury Saturday, senior defensive tackle Brandon Thompson was released from Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center Monday. No timetable has been set for his return to practice.
The Bears open the season Aug. 31 with a 7 p.m. game at North Texas.
