SAN MARCOS, Texas - Baylor runners took the individual titles in both the men's and women's races at the Southwest Texas State Invitational, run Oct. 22 in San Marcos.
Karin Ernstrom led the Baylor women as Bears grabbed first, second, and third place individual honors. The Baylor women ran away with their third win in four regular meets.
Ernstrom won her second straight race, running the two-mile race in 10:44. Ernstrom also won the Penn State Invitational on Oct. 9.
Sarah Broyles came in second with a time of 11:09. Broyles has now finished in the top 10 in all four of her races as a freshman.
Kara Newton finished third with a time of 11:13. Stephanie Bennett came in sixth at 11:34, giving Baylor four runners in the top 10.
Cynthia Henges placed 12th with a time of 11:49. Leah Marbach came in 21st in 12:08, with teammate Kim Cook one second behind in 22nd place.
The Baylor men placed second overall, behind host SWT. The Bears were led by Brandon Buhr, who won the three-mile event with a time of 14:45.
Ferenc Beskesi placed second, four seconds behind Buhr.
Josh Ward, running in his first race since the Baylor Invitational, finished 9th at 15:20. Jon Capron placed 12th with a time of 15:27, and Aaron Ward came in 15th at 15:32 to round out Baylor's top five.
Corey Dunigan finished 20th at 15:43, Alex Adler 28th at 16:06, and Brett Lamb in 38th with a time of 16:34.
Baylor's next competition will come at the Big XII Championships on Oct. 31 in College Station.
