Waco, Texas - One day after its first major scrimmage of the fall, Baylor's football team spent Wednesday correcting mistakes and stressing technique. The Bears practiced for 75 minutes in the morning and for two hours in the hot afternoon sun.

"We had a very practices, especially this morning," said Head Coach Kevin Steele. "This morning's practice was crisp. They flew around and made progress. We made a lot of corrections from yesterday's scrimmage.

"There were too many little technique things we didn't do well Tuesday. You're not going to be very successful in the Big 12 if you're not a good technique football team, and we intend to be technically sound."

The Bears, wearing shoulder pads and shorts, devoted a large portion of the afternoon session to controlled, game-like conditions.

"The next phase for our football team is learning how to be self-correcting. When we're in a game and something goes wrong in the middle of a series, a guy has to correct himself. Today, we worked on that, and the players were extremely focused."

Baylor conducts two-a-day practices Thursday and Friday before its second scrimmage of the fall, Saturday night at Fanfest. Fanfest begins at 4:30 p.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium.

The Bears open the season Aug. 31 with a 7 p.m. game at North Texas.
