Baylor Sweeps Texas Tech, 3-1 and 7-6

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Baylor softball team (24-28, 4-10 Big 12) swept its first Big 12 doubleheader of the season, defeating Texas Tech (16-32, 5-8 Big 12), 3-1 and 7-6 in Lubbock Monday afternoon.
Baylor starter Joni Miller (11-10) threw a career-high 11 strikeouts and scattered nine hits with no walks to earn the win. The only run given up by Miller was a sixth inning solo home run by Paula Workman.
The Bears got on the board first with a single run in the top of the second inning when Ryan Stukel hit her team-leading sixth home run of the season to right center.
BU added two more in the sixth when Sarah Caudle doubled home Sarah Sharp, who led off the inning with a single and a stolen base, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and came home on a passed ball.
Caudle and Stacey Hundley each had two hits for the Bears.
Amanda Renfro (12-18) took the loss for the Red Raiders giving up three runs, two earned, with seven strikeouts and no walks. Both pitchers went the distance.
Game two started off with a bang as both teams got two runs in the first and single runs in the second and third to be tied 4-4 after three and the two teams combined for 12 hits apiece in the contest
Baylor scored their two runs in the first on RBI singles by Caudle and Kristen Lancaster. Tech came right back when Kristi Tunnell walked with the bases loaded and Workman scored on a wild pitch.
Naomi Fitzgerald's RBI single in the second gave BU a 3-2 lead and Hundley's RBI single in the third gave the team a 4-3 lead.
After Texas Tech tied it up, the Bears scored three more in the fifth to take a 7-4 lead. Stukel scored on a wild pitch and Kelly Fleming's fifth home run of the season scored Hundley in front of her.
The Red Raiders made it a game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Tiffany Harrington had an RBI groundout and Renfro singled home Eva Harshman with two outs. However, Carrie Arn got Amanda Douglas to ground out to end the game.
Arn (7-8) got the win in relief of Caudle going 4.2 innings giving up two runs, both earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Dana Yocum (4-10) suffered the loss pitching the first five innings, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits with two K's and no walks.
All three of Baylor's Big 12 season sweeps have come at the hands of Texas Tech.
The Bears will host Texas A&M Tuesday afternoon at Getterman Stadium for a 5:00 p.m. doubleheader. This is a makeup of the doubleheader originally scheduled fgor two weeks ago, but was postponed due to bad weather.
This will also be the home finale for BU's two seniors, Carrie Arn and Heather Williams.
