ARLINGTON, Texas - In their second game of the day, the Bears were solid in a 3-1 victory over Ole Miss with freshman Joni Miller pitching her second complete game in two career statrs.
Baylor threatened in the bottom of the first loading the bases with two outs, but Ryan Stukel struck out to end the inning. Stukel got revenge in her next at bat in the fourth when she deposited a ball over the left centerfield fence for a home run and a 1-0 lead.
The Bears extended their lead to 3-0 in the fifth when Caudle turned on a high fastball and cleared the right field fence for her first collegiate home run. She had already hit a single and double in the game, and ended up going 9-for-11 on the day with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored and four RBI. This included getting eight consecutive base hits. She is now hitting .778 on the season and leads the team with 14 hits and a 1.111 slugging percentage.
Ole Miss got one run back in the top of the sixth when Mandy Shklar led off with a double, went to third on a groundout by Heather Swinney and came home on an RBI groundout by Kaci Coffee. That would be all for the Rebels as the Bears came away with a 3-1 win.
Joni Miller had another terrific game in the circle for BU as she went the distance scattering four hits and one earned run while striking out five. Miller had given up only six hits in 14.0 innings on the season up to that point.
Jennifer Hughes took the loss for Ole Miss who dropped to 0-2 on the season. Hughes pitched six full innings giving up seven hits and three earned runs, while striking out seven and walking none.
In beating the Rebels, head coach Paula Young earned the 300th win of her coaching career.
