Kansas Wins 4-1, Salvages Split With Baylor

WACO, Texas - The Kansas Jayhawks defeated Baylor 4-1 to salvage a split on Sunday at Baylor's Getterman Stadium. Baylor won Saturday's contest 5-0. The Jayhawks are now 25-24 overall and 3-9 in Big 12 play while the Bears fall to 22-25 and 2-7.
Kansas' Sarah Clopton earned her 13th win of the season limiting the Bears to five hits and striking out six. KU's Courtney Wright and Chrisy McPhail led the Jayhawks at the plate, each going 2-for-4. McPhail also knocked in two of Kansas' runs. For the Bears freshman shortstop Stacey Hundley was 2-for-3 on the day, she tallied the Bears' only RBI of the day.
Kansas scored one run in the second, two in the fourth and one in the sixth while the Bears scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
With two out in the top of the second inning, McPhail singled to left field, stole second and scored on Christi Musser's single through the right side. In the fourth with Wright on first, McPhail homered down the left field line. For their final run, Musser led of the sixth with a triple to right center and scored on Shelly Musser's sacrifice bunt. The Bears' lone run came with two out in the bottom of the seventh, pinch hitter Nan Wilkins doubled down the left field line and scored on Hundley's double to left center.
With the victory Clopton's record now stands at 13-10. Freshman Sarah Caudle suffered the loss moving her record to 6-9. She pitched 3.1 innings allowing six hits, three runs, three walks while striking out three. Carrie Arn came in in relief and gave up four hits and one run.
The Bears will travel to Austin on Wed., April 19 to play Texas a single game at 6:00 pm. The Jayhawks will host Oklahoma City University on Tues., April 18 in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm.
