Preseason ITA Rankings Include Six Baylor Tennis Players

WACO, Texas - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association listed four Baylor singles players and two Baylor doubles teams among the best in nation in their preseason rankings, released Monday.
Among the Baylor men, sophomore Zoltan Papp earned the highest ranking at No. 44. Papp finished last season ranked No. 87 as he compiled a 22-6 record after coming to Baylor in January.
Senior Mark Williams earned his first national singles ranking, coming in at No. 68. Williams was 33-8 last year for Baylor, including a perfect 8-0 conference record.
Williams and freshman Reiner Neurohr team to form the No. 20 doubles team in the country. Last season, Williams teamed with David Hodge as the eighth-ranked team. Neurohr comes to Baylor from Worms, Germany, where he was ranked among the top 100 players in the ITF junior world rankings.
The Baylor women's team also placed two singles players and one doubles team in the rankings. Senior Jahnavi Parekh earned the highest ranking at No. 13 in singles. Parekh concluded last season at No. 21 with a 39-9 overall record.
Junior Katja Kovac ranked No. 51 on the heels of a 31-12 record last year. She finished the 1999-2000 season ranked No. 73.
In doubles, the team of Kovac and sophomore Vida Mulec came in at No. 19. The duo was Baylor's top doubles team last season and ended the year ranked No. 44 in the nation.
Team rankings will be announced later in the fall, the release date has not been set yet.
The Baylor men begin play Friday at the River Oaks Clay Court in Houston, while the women open their fall schedule Saturday at the ITA Clay Courts in Baltimore.
