Women's Tennis Reps Begin Season at ITA Clay Courts

BALTIMORE - Three Baylor women's tennis players begin play this week at the T. Rowe Price National Intercollegiate Clay Court Championships in Baltimore.
Sophomore Vida Mulec begins Tuesday in the qualifying rounds of the tournament. Mulec finished last season with a 25-12 record as Baylor's number three player.
Senior Jahnavi Parekh and junior Katja Kovac begin play Thursday in the main draw. Parekh went 39-9 last season and earned the first all-America honor in the program's history, she opens the fall ranked No. 13 in the nation. Kovac compiled a 31-12 record in 1999-2000 and was ranked No. 51 in the preseason ITA rankings.
Mulec and Kovac also start play later this week in doubles play. The team was ranked No. 19 by the ITA in the preseason listing.
The action is the first of the year for the Baylor women. Last season, the Bears ranked 19th in the nation in the final ITA polls, thanks to a 22-5 overall record. After placing second in the Big 12 Conference, Baylor won its NCAA first round match but lost to Texas in the second round.
