Waco, Texas - -- In an effort to simulate playing conditions for next week's home opener against Minnesota, Baylor began Saturday's two-hour practice at shortly before noon. The Bears host the Golden Gophers next Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
"We really got after it this morning," Head Coach Kevin Steele said. "We worked extensively on special teams, two-minute drill and conditioning. It was hot out there, but the players responded well."
The practice also produced an injury, as true freshman wide receiver John Martin fractured his right collarbone while diving to make a reception. The Stillwater, Okla.-native caught two passes for 22 yards in the season-opening win at North Texas. He is expected to miss at least six-to-eight weeks.
"It was a deep pass in seven-on-seven drills, and he just laid out and landed on his shoulder wrong. It's unfortunate, because he had figured into our plans and had earned playing time."
Baylor takes Sunday off before resuming preparation for Minnesota Monday afternoon.
The Baylor-Minnesota game will be televised regionally to a syndicated audience as the Big 12 Game of the Week. Check local listings for stations carrying the game.
