#18 Baylor (1-0) at Rolex National Indoor
Thursday-Sunday, Feb. 1-4, 2001 * Dallas, Texas
Senior Jahnavi Parekh and junior Katja Kovac will represent the 18th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team at the Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, to be played at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas Feb. 1-4.
Kovac earned a spot in the tournament by winning the ITA Southwest Regional in November, for which she earned ITA National Player of the Month honors. Ranked No. 35 in the nation, Kovac enters the tournament on the crest of a career-high 10-match winning streak.
Parekh, an all-American in 2000, was elected to participate on the basis of her No. 18 national ranking. Parekh has won five of her last six matches, with the only loss coming to teammate Kovac at the ITA regional.
Last season, Parekh advanced to the semifinals of the Rolex Indoors in the first appearance by a Baylor women's player.
The women's side of the tournament includes the defending national champion in Stanford's Laura Granville and nine of the top 10 players in the nation.
Team notes:
The team's No. 18 ranking to open the spring ties the team's highest ever, the team also ranked No. 18 during three different weeks in March and April of 2000... The Bears were selected to participate in the National Team Indoors, an elite tournament featuring 16 of the top teams in the country...
